The band

Caught Inside are diasporic jaffas based in Pōneke who make eclectic punk and politicised pop music. Departing from the hazy bars and cellars of the band’s Karangahape Road stomping ground in 2022 to study jazz at the New Zealand School of Music, Caught Inside were quick to make an impact upon the Pōneke music scene, culminating in their performance at this year’s Cuba Dupa. In the midst of a relentless live schedule, Caught Inside teamed up with Emily Wheatcroft-Snape (Lorde, Fazerdaze) to craft their latest project ‘Five Star Shag’, released late August of 2023.

 

The project is the culmination of the band’s past few years in the capital city, drawing musically on their captivating live energy honed amongst other up-and-coming Wellington acts such as Rose Lubransky, Daisy Grae and Governor Jeff. However, at the same time, it is introspective and reflective. Five Star Shag explores moving forward from past relationships, the struggles of financial independence, and navigating a world of illicit substances and double-meanings.  Caught Inside look forward to a massive summer of live music, festivals dates, and touring.
